چکیده

Metric resolution digital terrain models (DTMs) of rivers now make it possible for multi-dimensional fluid mechanics models to be applied to characterize flow at fine scales that are relevant to studies of river hydraulic geometry (HG) and ecological habitat, or microscales. These developments are important for managing rivers because of the potential to better understand system dynamics, anthropogenic impacts, and the consequences of proposed interventions. However, the data volumes and computational demands of microscale river modeling have largely constrained applications to small multiples of the channel width, or the mesoscale. This report presents computational methods to extend a microscale river model beyond the mesoscale to the macroscale, defined as large multiples of the channel width. A method of automated unstructured grid generation is presented that automatically clusters fine resolution cells in areas of curvature (e.g., channel banks), and places relatively coarse cells in areas lacking topographic variability. This overcomes the need to manually generate breaklines to constrain the grid, which is painstaking at the mesoscale and virtually impossible at the macroscale. The method is applied to a braided river (BR) and shown to yield an efficient fine resolution model. The sensitivity of model output to grid design and resistance parameters is also examined based on analysis of hydrology, HG, and river hydraulic habitats and the findings reiterate the importance of model calibration and validation.

The present paper tries to describe the advantage and improvement of a numerical model when predicting government processes on Flow Rivers. With regard to the important effect of the flow velocity and shear stress forces on river bank erosion, we apply a Two-Dimensional numerical model, named CCHE2D, to simulate river flow pattern at a meandering river Khoshk-e-Rud River of Farsan, 30 Km west o...

Numerical Modelling of Braided River Morphodynamics: Review and Future Challenges

Numerical morphological modelling of braided rivers is increasingly used to explore controls on river pattern and for applied environmental management. This article reviews and presents a taxonomy of braided river morphodynamic models and discusses the challenges facing model development and use, illustrating these challenges with a case example. The taxonomy is contextualised by an initial dis...

Rivers have different patterns of plan forms. Straight and meandering rivers have single channel but braided, anabranching and anastomosing rivers have multi channels. Gamasiab River in Kermanshah province has different plan forms of channels. In this study, historical method is used and is investigated different plan form and river's changes with using of aerial photography of 1955, 1969, 2003...

Determining the best water quality model for the rivers in north of Iran (case study: Pasikhan River)

The aim of this paper is to study the popular models used for the simulation of major elements of a water quality system. The present study compares results of the CE-QUAL-W2 model with the WASP5 and MIKE11 models to assess the water quality of Pasikhan River. The contaminant loadings of Nitrate and Phosphate are utilized in the CE-QUAL-W2, WASP5 and MIKE11 simulations. This study is the first ...
